Govt must rein in lawlessness, make women’s safety a top priority
Tragedy strikes again!!!!
Friends, it is extremely unfortunate that I am writing this when the nation is celebrating Raksha Bandhan … a festival that reminds Brothers of the bond of trust and affection that they share with their Sisters.
Barely had we recovered from the shock of the gang-rape of a minor in a #Rewari village than we are confronted with an equally horrifying news about two sisters from #Yamunanagar, who jumped into a canal after allegedly complaining of harassment. While the younger sibling was saved by a passer-by, the elder one is feared drowned.
Another innocent life snuffed out!!!!!!!!
I have instructed my team at the #KDSinghFoundation to gather more details about this case. My team informs me that the younger of the two siblings was saved by a tractor driver, who threw a rope and pulled her out. Thanks to this Good Samaritan, the girl is alive today. But her sister was not so fortunate; she was washed away. Her body has not been found yet.
Preliminary investigations indicate that it could have been a case of harassment. However, the police have not ruled out suicide. Whatever might have been the provocation, the sad fact is that it has cost the young girl her life. And it cannot be undone!!!!!
